Founded in 1989 and based near London's Heathrow airport in the UK, Metrodata is a leading designer and manufacturer of datacoms hardware for Fixed line, Satellite, Enterprise and Carrier networks.
Specialising in interoperability and interconnectivity, Metrodata offers a range of Standard, Niche and System Integrated type products. These cover the areas of Media converters, Interface converters, Fiber converters, Ethernet extenders and ATM switching and circuit emulation products. Fiber Optic Conversion
The Metrodata fiber optic modem converter range of converters provide a simple economic way of converting from one type of transmission medium to another, examples include:
- Electrical signals on copper to optical signal on fiber and vice-versa.
- Single-mode optical fiber to multimode and vice-versa.

- Singlemode Short Haul Fiber

Ethernet Extension
The Metrodata ethernet extension products enable the ability to extend your internal ethernet network across a wide area network. All Metrodata ethernet extenders offer the ability to extend four LAN ports which may be connected to a single LAN workstation, to a hub or switch supporting multiple workstations over a WAN, removing the need for a router to handle the WAN connection thus reducing cost of ownership. The Ethernet Extenders are available for the following WAN interfaces:
- E1 G703
- X.21 and V.35 Serial Interfaces
- E3 or DS-3
- Fiber (STM-1 or OC-3)

Media Interface Converters
The Metrodata Media Interface converters provide the ability to connect Bridges or Routers to an E1 leased line. The media interface converters provide a G703 or G704 interface which is required to span the gap between the synchronous interface of a bridge or router and the E1 leased line.
The following configuration options are available:
- X.21 to a unframed E1 G703 interface
- V.35 to a unframed E1 G703 interface
- X.21 to a framed Nx64k E1 G704 interface
- V.35 to a framed Nx64k E1 G704 interface
